With female participation in Skateboarding rising to unprecedented levels over last decade, groups like Calgary-Based 100% Skate Club have been carving out safe space for women, non-binary, queer and beginner skaters in public skatepark. We want to take a moment to celebrate them and we look forward to all of our future collaborations with this amazing community driven group.

Over the past 2 decades, New Line Skateparks has had the privilege of not only building a sustainable Skatepark Design/Build firm but has had the honor of partnering with countless Non-Profits, NGO’s, grass roots organizations and advocates who are pushing for positive social change through skateboarding, programming and skatepark development. The projects we have participated in have spanned the globe as well as, a diverse cross section of geography, cultural/social demographics, socio-economic and political conditions. Through relationships with world-leaders in the social-skate community, these projects have become an avenue for New Line to extend our vision of Building Skateboarding and Building Community on a scale we could not have predicted.

New Line is excited to announce a formalized partnership with the amazing crew at the Concrete Jungle Foundation! This announcement is built on the foundation of a proven  working relationship through the successful completion of projects in both Angola, Africa and most recently, Kingston Jamaica. Through the course of both of these projects, New Line provided conceptual and technical design support along with guidance and direction through the construction process. Led by the capable Concrete Jungle Crew, our teams were able to navigate unfamiliar build environments through close working relationships with local specialists and community volunteers. Upon the completion of the skateparks and through support of CJF’s renowned Edu-Skate program, the parks now act as a hub for locally-operated community programming and outreach.

As we move forward to our third project together in Peru, New Line Skateparks has committed to the ongoing support of CJF projects for the next three years. Through financial contributions, continued consulting and construction support, along with a series of internal fundraising events and initiatives, we hope to play even a small role in supporting the Concrete Jungle Foundation as they continue to make a global impact with their unique approach to skatepark and program development.

We are humbled by the opportunity to get to work with this incredible organization and look forward to witnessing their continued impact world-wide.

Another first for international skateboarding!  The completion of the Banff Skatepark marks the introduction of the first integrated public concrete skatepark within a North American National Park setting.

Part of the UNESCO Rocky Mountain Parks World Heritage Site, Banff National Park is Canada’s largest and most renowned National Park with over 3 million visitors a year making the pilgrimage from across the globe. Recognizing the importance of the site and gravity of the unprecedented development opportunity at hand, our team embarked on an intensive 12 month design and construction process involving local skateboarders, civic officials, and planning experts from Parks Canada. Along with achieving a world-class selection of modern skatepark terrain, critical environmental stewardship, wildlife preservation, and architectural control requirements had to be addressed in a manner fitting for Banff’s unique ‘heart’, culture, and breathtaking surroundings. The result is a facility of global significance, demonstrating a thoughtful balance of compelling skateable architecture, sustainable design, and signature accents that reflect the best of Banff’s unmistakable character.

A huge THANK YOU to the dedicated City Council and Staff, Local Skaters, and Parks Canada Representatives who helped make this landmark project a reality!

One of the newest parks in the Kooteney’s, this skatepark and surrounding amenities are the result of a collaborative design process between VDZ Landscape Design and New Line Skateparks. Through the construction administration process it was essential that all finishing details stayed true to the integrity of the design perimeters. This breathtaking facility not only suits it’s rustic surroundings but will surely become a must stop for any visitor passing through the region. Grand opening is set for 2020 with details forthcoming. Let the skatepark’s senior designer take you on a guided tour!

On an extremely cold Friday in February, Dan Mancina brought his love of skateboarding to Calgary, Alberta, Canada and helped change the lives of fifteen visually impaired youth. In partnership with non-profit organization Academy Skateboard Collective, Dan shared his story and introduced skateboarding to the youth, their parents and school staff. Dan’s story of resilience not only resonated deeply with the group of students but its impact on their caregivers was equally visceral. As the students familiarized themselves with their skateboards and the skatepark, they approached standing on the boards, rolling, pushing and pumping the transitions with an uninhibited confidence. In a short amount of time, students comfortably explored the physical landscape in a way they had never before: through the lens of skateboarding. The impact Dan has left on our community will not be soon forgotten. He gave us all one residing message; anything is possible. The experience reminded us that we are not defined by perceived barriers but that we can find meaning in our ability to adapt in the face of them. Isn’t that what skateboarding is truly about?

Thank you Dan Mancina, Academy Skateboard Collective, Real Skateboards, Adidas, Ninetimes Skate Shop, the Compound Skatepark and everyone else that made this event possible. We are truly stoked to support grass roots initiatives like these.

Many of us know this from personal experience, skateboarding makes us feel better.  The question is: What happens when we intentionally create space to use skateboarding as a vehicle for inclusion, learning and well being? A global conversation has begun to shed light on the inherent impact skateboarding can have on Mental Health, Education and Social Issues. Listen to Joe Buffalo, Jonah Bayley, Kristin Ebeling, Joel Pippus and John Rattray discuss just this during SWITCH: A panel discussion on skateboarding’s effect on Mental Health, Education and Social Awareness. Curated by Everett Tetz and Rose Archie and brought to you by New Line Skateparks in partnership with the Vancouver Skateboard Coalition.
